Individual Psychotherapy

Adults

The prospect of entering individual psychotherapy and opening yourself up to someone you don’t know can be daunting.  It is a huge step that requires a leap of faith.

My therapeutic style is warm, welcoming, and collaborative. Your comfort level is of the utmost importance. I strive to build trust and rapport through active, empathic listening and convey an understanding of your subjective experience so that you feel that I get you.

I am flexible in adapting to your needs, as the pacing of exploration is tailored to the individual's sensitivity—from those ready to hit the ground running to get to the bottom of things to those who have a slower-to-warm-up style and need a gentler approach.

New clients come to see me for help in dealing with a range of presenting issues, including difficulties with intimacy/assertion, childhood trauma, unresolved loss, relationship dissatisfaction, loneliness, distractibility, productivity challenges, work dissatisfaction, and life transitions across the life span, including adolescence/young adulthood, relationship transitions, beginning a family, divorce, empty nest, and retirement/aging/death).

My theoretical orientation is eclectic, with a prominent emphasis on psychodynamic/insight-oriented therapy. Psychodynamic therapy emphasizes the influence of early childhood experiences on current emotional struggles.  I gently encourage you to become curious about the origin of painful feelings and explore childhood relationships and significant events to identify any unresolved conflicts or traumas.  By revisiting and processing these experiences, you can enhance your insight into emotional triggers and learn how to respond more skillfully to challenging emotions.

Adolescents

I work with depressed adolescents in individual psychotherapy and, when appropriate, in family therapy. Building a trusting and supportive relationship with the teen is crucial.  I strive to create a safe, non-judgmental space where teenagers feel comfortable discussing their emotions, thoughts, and concerns.

Depression often fosters negative self-perceptions and self-criticism, which can hinder social interactions.  I encourage teenagers to challenge and reframe these negative beliefs, promoting a more positive and realistic self-image.

Emphasis is placed on developing coping skills, emotional regulation, and problem-solving abilities. As a result, teens can manage their distress more effectively and build resilience.

Let's embark on this journey together towards healing, reconnection, and improved well-being. Together, we will navigate your challenges and empower you to live a life that aligns with your aspirations.
